Bröken Up By Ikea

Bröken Up By Ikea - January 24, 2006 - The New York Sun - NY Newspaper: "A 26-year-old Web designer who declined to be named said that when she went shopping with her girlfriend for their apartment, she almost immediately wanted to leave. 'Ten or 15 minutes in, I just panicked,' she said. Experiencing something like a minor anxiety attack after seeing the crowds at the store, she told her girlfriend that she had to go."

I swear this wasn't me! Really! I completely understand it, but it wasn't me.

I am planning on practicing a large amount of meditation and TW coping skills when we go with the girl child. I am sure it will be fun. I know what to expect now. Walking, crowds, confusion and nifty cheap stuff.

Here's what I do to avoid the anxiety of crazy people at Ikea: go before it opens (like half hour or 45 mins or so) and go to the Ikea cafe, which should be open (but the crazy people tend not to know this, and thus it is practically empty). In addition to extremely cheap breakfast food, should you want it, _the coffee is free_. So you could do what I do, which is to sit in the nearly-empty cafe and drink their free coffee until all the people lining up being all freaky about shopping disperse into the store.

Or you could just go in the middle of the day, I suppose. :)

We went in the middle of the day last time. It was frightening.
